Your Business Unpaid Employment or Sales Tax in King County

Washington State Tax Attorney Will Examine Your Situation

King County Tax Law Firm Focuses on Unpaid Sales Tax

If you own a business in King County, you must file a sales tax return each reporting period – monthly, quarterly, or annually – even if you did not conduct business or receive income. There are three ways to report:

  • Online at dot.wa.gov
  • By phone 24-hours a day
  • By mail with a paper return

If you are unable to pay your sales tax on time, it is important that you contact the local Department of Revenue office as soon as possible. The penalties on late payments are as follows:

  • Five percent after the due date until the last day of the month following the due date
  • Fifteen percent after the last day of the month following the due date
  • Twenty-five percent after the last day of the second month following the due date, and anything after

It is possible to file an extension for unpaid sales tax, and the penalties may be waived under limited circumstances. Once an account becomes delinquent, penalties and interest will begin to accrue on the unpaid tax until the entire balance is paid in full. If you don’t respond and your account continues to be delinquent, it will be assigned to a Revenue Agent for collection. If you don’t reply or make satisfactory payments, the department of revenue may issue an assessment and then a tax warrant covering all unpaid tax, penalties, and interest. If the tax warrant is not paid within 10 days, it is filed with King County Superior Court.
